As a result of factors such as increasing life expectancy, women entering the workforce, and decreasing birth rates in the world and in our country, the “elderly population” is rapidly increasing. This demographic change brings with it some problems and forces country administrations to change in the fields of health and social services. The need for gerontologists who have the authority to plan and implement all issues affecting the lives of elderly individuals, such as the health, social, economic, security, and care needs of the increasing elderly population, is increasing. Our department will contribute to meeting this need with the gerontologists it will train during its 4-year education. Our graduates from our department, which has a wide employment area, can work as consultants and managers in institutions that work directly with the elderly. They can work within the ministries that develop policies and services for elderly problems and in the elderly services units of municipalities. They can also work in the management levels of private enterprises that provide services to the elderly.
